Dear parents and carers,

In English this week, we focused on using emotive words in our writing. The children acted out village scenes in groups and wrote thought bubbles about how Ivan and his friends were feeling about the summer. They then went on to write a diary from the viewpoint of Ivan’s father. We also revised our knowledge of subordinate and main clauses.

In Maths, we continued with multiplication and division, in particular multiplying and dividing a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number. Children were taught to use various strategies such as place value charts and partitioning a number using the part-whole model. We will be continuing this topic next week.

In Geography we have been looking at rocks and their properties. The children have been taught that the three main types of rocks are: sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. We identified which rocks are used for various purposes such as granite being perfect for kitchen top surfaces due to being impermeable and hard. The children also learnt about the process of fossilisation and made their own fossils using salt dough. Next week we will be diving deeper into the world of fossils and researching about Mary Anning: a renowned fossil collector and palaeontologist.

A big thank you to Reverend Nick, who welcomed us to his church on Tuesday morning. He introduced the children to the Trinity and gave us all a guided tour of the church and its features.

Please may we request that all children bring their reading books to school everyday so that we can listen to them read at every opportunity.

Thank you and have a wonderful week.

Mrs Britton, Mrs Nash and Mrs Charlwood.
