Year 3 Spring Term 4 2026
DT Unit: Greenhouse
This project teaches children about the purpose, structure and design features of greenhouses, and compares the work of two significant greenhouse designers. They learn techniques to strengthen structures and use tools safely. They use their learning to design and construct a mini greenhouse.
Year 4 Spring Term 4 2026
Art Unit: Animals in Art
This project teaches children about the historical and cultural portrayal of animals in art. They study the visual qualities of animals through sketching, printmaking and clay modelling.
Year 5 Spring Term 4 2026
Art Unit: Line, Light and Shadows
This project teaches children about the visual qualities of line, light and shadow. They explore the work of Pablo Picasso and Rembrandt and are introduced to a range of shading techniques. They take black and white photographs and use pencil, pen and ink wash to reimagine their photographs in a shaded drawing.
Year 6 Spring Term 4 2026
Art Unit: Make Do and Mend
This project teaches children a range of simple sewing stitches, including ways of recycling and repurposing old clothes and materials to make decorative fabric bowls. To be continued next term!

Art Unit: Prehistoric Pots
This project teaches children about Bell Beaker pottery. It allows the children to explore different clay techniques, which they use to make and decorate a Bell Beaker-style pot.
Year 4 Spring Term 3 2026
Art Unit: Vista
This project teaches children about the techniques that artists use when composing landscape images, such as colour and atmosphere.
This project teaches children about paper crafts, collage techniques, including paper, fabric, mixed media and photo collage. They use their learning to create a final piece of small-scale, mixed media collage.

Art Unit: Environmental Artists
This project teaches children about the genre of environmental art. They study how artists create artwork that addresses social and political issues related to the natural and urban environment. Children work collaboratively to create artwork with an environmental message.

DT Unit: Making it Move
This project teaches children about cam mechanisms. They experiment with different shaped cams before designing, making and evaluating an automated toy.

DT Unit: Functional and Fancy Fabrics
This project teaches children about home furnishings and the significant designer William Morris. They learn techniques for decorating fabric, including block printing and embroidery and use them to design and make a fabric sample.

DT Unit: Moving Mechanisms
This project teaches children about pneumatic systems. They experiment with pneumatics before designing, making and evaluating a pneumatic creature with opening and closing jaws.

DT Unit: Engineer
This project teaches children about remarkable engineers and significant bridges, learning to identify features, such as beams, arches and trusses. They complete a bridge-building engineering challenge to create a bridge prototype.

ART Unit: Contrast and Compliment
This project teaches children about colour theory by studying the colour wheel and colour mixing. It includes an exploration of tertiary colours, warm and cool colours, complementary colours and analogous colours, and how artists use colour in their artwork.
Year 4 Autumn Term 1 2025
DT Unit: Warp and Weft
This project teaches children about the artform of weaving and how it has developed over time, including the materials and techniques required to create woven patterns and products. The children made their own flower looms from paper plates and made these beautiful weavings.
Year 5 Autumn Term 1 2025
ART Unit: Tints, Tones and Shades
This project teaches children about colour theory by studying the colour wheel and exploring mixing tints, shades and tones. They learn about significant landscape artworks and features of landscapes before using this knowledge to create winter landscape paintings and drawings.
Year 6 Autumn Term 1 2025
ART Unit: Trailblazers and Barrier Breakers
This project teaches children about significant black artists and their work, and provides opportunities to analyse and create artwork inspired by them.
