This Week in Surrey
Week beginning 6th July 2026
We have had a great start to the week, once again the children showing their resilience to the rising temperatures.
In Maths we are reaching the end of position and direction and have been using coordinates to plot points onto a grid. We have discussed the x and y axis and how the x axis is horizontal and the y axis is vertical. We looked at how to read coordinates by first moving along the x and then up the y, moving onto pot points onto a grid. Building on this we used our growing knowledge of shapes to plot 2D shapes such as a rhombus, trapezium and a parallelogram (that's a mouthful!). We used masking tape to tape a grid out in class to demonstrate how to translate shapes, using left, right, up and down.
In English we have read many more chapters of Varjak Paw and found out some thrilling developments. What has happened with Julius? What do we know of the Vanishings? Who is Cludge? Can you let your adult know. Varjak had a tricky decision to make when returning to his family and we have written a letter to him to help persuade him of the most positive decision. It was great to see such empathetic but persausive language.
In History we have been comparing Ancient Sumer and Ancient Egypt using a venn diagram. In Science we have been looking at programmable devices - how many can you spot at home?
Well done Surrey!
