Welcome to Cumbria 5!
We hope you have had a wonderful summer holidays and are feeling refreshed and ready for the challenges of Year 5 learning. We have been very busy preparing the curriculum ready for our new learners. We are launching into new topics, subjects and areas of interest for the children. We will be spending lots of time this week sharing our home learning challenges and linking them to GIFT and our lighthouses. We will be turning the home learning into pledges for the year, using the lighthouses to help us shine our light.
In Maths this week we will have a refresher about Roman numerals before exploring place value numbers to 100,000.
In English we will begin our new class text: Danny Chung does not like maths. This is a fun story, with lots of opportunities for book talk and exploring new ideas and themes, including playing bingo and bowles later in the term.
In Science we begin a unit about forces - pushes and pulls. It will be interesting to find out what the children already know about this before we learn more together.
In History our topic is Ancient China - we will find out about the Shang Dynasty and how it influenced the ancient world and how it is still influencing the modern world.
In Geography our topic is 'Investigating our World' - finding out about maps and coordinates, biomes and climate belts.
PE is on a Thursday with Mr Levett - please ensure PE kits are in school everyday just in case there are timetable changes.
We look forward to meeting parents at the Meet the Teacher pop in on Wednesday 16th September or on the playground after school.
