Southborough Church of England Primary School
Friday 4th September
Dear parents and carers,
It has been so lovely to welcome the children back to school over the last few days. They have shown much enthusiasm in our learning and we have already had some interesting class discussions. In English the children drew a story map to describe their favourite day during the holidays. We have also started our new class text 'Quill Soup' by Alan Durant. This book centres on a porcupine called Noko and his adventures and encounters with the residents of a village in the Valley of a Thousand Hills.
In Maths, we have started our unit on Place Value. So far, we have recapped representing numbers to 100 and practised partitioning numbers using a variety of manipulatives including dienes and bead strings. We have also looked at numbers up to 100 on number lines. Next week we will continue with Place Value and focus on larger numbers up to 1000.
We have also been exploring our School Vision and GIFT, as well as enjoying all the wonderful Summer projects that the children have brought into school to share with the class. These are already proudly on display in our classroom, and we have been incredibly impressed by the thought, creativity and effort that has gone into each one. It has been lovely to see the children so enthusiastic about sharing their learning and ideas with one another.
Please note that our PE days will be on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please ensure that your children bring their PE bags into school on Monday.
Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
Mrs Nash, Mrs McGinley and Mrs Strudwick.
