Week Beginning 12.10.26
Maths
We have been finishing our unit on addition and subtraction. This week, we focused on subtraction without exchanging and subtraction involving more than one exchange. The children have found some of these methods quite challenging, so we would really appreciate any extra practice you can do at home to help build their confidence.
English
We have finished reading our class book, The King Who Banned the Dark, and the children have written their own book reviews, sharing their thoughts and opinions. We have also enjoyed several woodland walks, using the natural surroundings to inspire our figurative language. We have been practising personification, onomatopoeia, similes and metaphors to make our writing more descriptive and imaginative.
Science
We carried out a fun investigation into our teeth! The children used pieces of apple to explore the different jobs our teeth do, from biting to chewing. We also counted our teeth and discussed why we have different types of teeth.
History
We have been learning about Sutton Hoo, an important Anglo-Saxon archaeological site in Suffolk. The children discovered the incredible ship burial and explored some of the fascinating treasures found there, including a famous helmet, jewellery and weapons. We discussed what these discoveries tell us about Anglo-Saxon life, wealth and beliefs.
PE will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Thank you for ensuring that PE kits are kept in school, as this allows us to adapt easily if there are any changes to our timetable.
