LATWKSSP Mixed Hockey Competition – Thursday 7th March

Following on from all the rain we’ve had in recent times it was refreshing to enjoy a competition in glorious winter sunshine! Southborough travelled to Hawkenbury Recreational Ground for this year mixed Hockey competition to compete against thirteen other schools. The pupils were both excited and ready having practiced last term during curriculum time to develop their skills and knowledge.

We played a number of schools throughout the afternoon with St Peters, Bishops Down and Claremont B in our group. We started really well with early chances from Ava and Jake but narrowly missed on both occasions playing Claremont B. Reuben moved the ball well up the wing and Jensen was solid in defense. Ayla and Hana tackled really well and made some fantastic through balls to Jacob on a number of occasions. Anna and Jacob dribbled the ball really well finding the gaps on a number of occasions before making the pass. At the end of our group games we were first equal which meant a penalty shoot out against St Peters. In the shootout, despite some brilliant shooting we unfortunately lost 6-4.

We then went on to play Slade and Claremont C where we again drew 0-0 in both games. It was an afternoon when we drew every game which is very rare in sport! However, the team really enjoyed their games and played with a great spirit and determination.

Tunbridge Wells Sports Partnership Hockey Competition- Tuesday 21st March

Yesterday our Hockey team took part in the Annual Hockey Competition at Hawkenbury Recreational Park. We were in Group 1 against St Peter’s, Long Mead, Temple Grove and Claremont B. The tempo of the games was really fast and the team enjoyed playing on a fast surface. We played some excellent Hockey and certainly improved with our short and long corners throughout the games. We produced some superb team passing with Jonathan and Sahith making strong runs. Defensively, Isabelle and Elsie produced some goal saving tackles whilst Maddie, Sophia and Louis played well in midfield while Teddy made some brilliant breaks up front as our striker. In the play off’s we played a strong St Marks team and managed to win 2-0 with goals from Jonathan and Teddy in Southborough best game of the day. In the end we finished in 11th place in a hugely competitive tournament against some good club players.

All the pupils really enjoyed playing the matches and moving forward if pupils do want to play Hockey out of school we recommend Tunbridge Wells Hockey club who play between 9am-12 midday on a Sunday at Tonbridge Boys School.

Well done to all the pupils that took part in the Hockey: Jonathan, Sahith, Teddy, Louis, Maddie, Sophia, Elsie and Isabelle.
