Southborough Girls Tag Rugby Competition at Juddians Rugby Club- Tonbridge- Wednesday 2nd October

On Wednesday afternoon the Girls Tag Rugby team travelled to Tonbridge Juddians Rugby club to take part in the development Girls Tag Rugby competition. The team have been training hard every Friday lunchtime under the guidance of Sam from First Class Sport and more recently Ben from Tunbridge Wells Rugby Club. The team were very excited and having spoken to the players, they felt confident in their ability to run straight with the ball and make precise passes whilst moving forward with the ball. They were also confident about the importance of making early tag tackles.

The team were in pool A with Chiddingstone, Hildenborough, Temple Grove and Slade Primary Schools and got off to a tremendous start. They moved the ball against Chiddingstone with speed and pace and we saw a succession on tries from Emma, Neve, Ava, Yasmin, and Margot in the early games winning by a number of tries.

As the afternoon progressed the girl’s confidence grew and they really start to move the ball down the line against Temple Grove who had a number of players with good pace and skill. Darcie, Evelyn and Lily managed to score a couple of break away tries supported by Isla and Evelyn who both had fantastic games making some superb runs.

We finished the afternoon with the pupils practicing some tackling skills on the tackling bags ready for any club rugby that they may play in the future representing their local rugby clubs.

The pupils showed incredible strength and discipline in their performance all afternoon and managed to win all their games. Well done team.

The team were: Darcie, Evelyn, Yasmin, Margot, Isla, Neve, Lily, Emma and Ava.

The Girls Tag Rugby club has again started with Sam on Fridays. We've had a brilliant start to the new year with large numbers of pupils from years 5 and 6 learning new skills around passing and receiving the ball. They have also learnt the importance of tackling using the tag belts whilst moving and running straight and into space. The pupils have enjoyed the games and we look forward to potential TWKSSP competitions during the course of this year.  Here are some of the pupils in training over the last couple of weeks.
