Southborough Mixed Netball v Bishops Chavasse- Tuesday 12th March, 2024

What a great afternoon of top-class Netball against two very closely matched teams. Southborough fielded two teams against Bishops Chavasse on Tuesday 12th March at Southborough School. As before, Bishops Chavasse started very strongly initially putting both teams on the back foot. Southborough then fought back, settling into their patterns of play in both the yellow and pink team matches.

The pink team match had some lovely footwork with movement on and off the ball. The progression from last year was really noticeable under the guidance of their Netball coach. We particularly saw an increase in our pupil’s ability to mark players and shoot with a high degree of accuracy. The game itself was extremely close and into the final few minutes the scored remained 7-7 a piece before Southborough managed to clinch the winning goal for an 8-7 win. The goals were scored by Jacob and Hana.

The yellow team started off with real purpose showing significant improvement from last year in the way they passed the ball, pivoted with control and communicated throughout the game. Lily and Jake provided the goals in this game supported by the team who pressed throughout the game. Yellow team finished the game with a brilliant 9-4 win. Both games were played with enthusiasm and all the pupils thoroughly enjoyed playing two very competitive games.

Thank you for the support of Mrs Sarjeant for all her hard work with the teams this year on a Tuesday and to Mrs Harrison and Mrs James for supporting with the team against Bishops Chavasse. We always welcome our parent’s expertise at clubs during the year.

The Netball team were: Lauren, Daisy, Lily, Jess M, Reuben, Yasmin, Frank, Margot, Maddie, Annabel, Freya, Poppy, Hana, Jacob and Jake.

Southborough Mixed Netball v Bishops Chavasse- Tuesday 7th November.

What a fantastic start to the season for our Netball team. On a glorious November evening the mixed team competed in their first match against a very competitive and physical Bishops Chavasse team. In the early stages of the match following some excellent footwork and shooting from the away team, saw them go out to a 6-2 lead with only a few minutes to go. Southborough suddenly switched up a gear with some fast hands and quick passing which resulted in four dramatic goals from Jake, Isabelle, Jacob and Reuben. The team enthusiasm and support really encouraged the players which resulted in a 6-6 all draw. Mrs Sarjeant who umpired and coaches the team was amazed by all the players energy throughout the game in such a fast-paced match. Well done to all the players that took part on Tuesday:

The team were: Reuben, Jake, Jacob, Maisey, Jessica, Annabel, Freya, Poppy, Daisy, Emmanuel, Eunice, Bongani, Grace, Yasmin, Isabelle and Leila.

Girls Netball at SKA- Monday 30th January

The girls travelled to Skinners Kent Academy on Monday to take part in the District Netball League. The pupils played a number of high intensity Netball games against some very organised teams but despite losing to a very strong St James A and B team the pupils showed great resilience. We had a number of excellent performances with Freya showing her strength in defense whilst both Isabella and Hattie showed some good strategy with their passing and ability to move into space. As a team our focus is to practice jumping on rebounds and passing the ball to the moving player as well as looking for the player in attack.

Well done to the team that took part: Francesca, Hattie, Isabella, Freya, Sophia-Ella, Bella, Chloe and Nancy.

Netball has started with our Year 5 and 6 pupils practicing every Tuesday ready for the fixtures at Skinners Kent Academy throughout the Autumn and Winter terms. The team has been working hard under the guidance of Miss Wright who is a keen Netball player and Year 2 teacher. Miss Wright is thrilled with the progress that the pupils have shown so far this Autumn, improving their passing and shooting, ability to create space and their understanding of the different positions and strategies needed to be successful as a team. Here are few pictures of early season training.

Autumn Netball Practice

Well done to all the pupils that took part in the recent Netball against St Matthews at SKA. It was an amazing experience for all the pupils and despite losing 6-0 the pupils really enjoyed playing competitively against other schools.
