Southborough Church of England Primary School
PE will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays for Term 4.
Welcome back!
This week, Shropshire Class have been working hard and enjoying a wide range of learning activities across the curriculum.
In Maths, the children have been learning all about mass. They practised reading scales accurately in grams (g) and kilograms (kg) and compared the weights of different objects. The class also explored how to decide whether items are balanced by carefully observing and reasoning about their weights, using practical equipment to support their understanding.
In English, we have been developing our descriptive writing skills by exploring the use of personification. Using our Term 4 text Star Bird as inspiration, the children planned their own personification poems. They focused on describing the different places Star Bird visited to hide, thinking carefully about how to give these places human-like qualities to make their writing more imaginative and engaging.
In Design and Technology, we began our new topic on beach huts. This week, the children examined a range of examples and identified their key features, such as shape, colour and structure. They also discussed similarities between different designs and began to think about what makes a beach hut both practical and attractive.
In Geography, we continued our learning about the RNLI. The children used maps of the United Kingdom to locate where lifeboat stations are based and learned why these stations are positioned in particular coastal areas. This helped them to develop their map-reading skills and deepen their understanding of how the RNLI helps to keep people safe at sea.
In Science, the children focused on learning about plants. They labelled and created their own detailed plant diagrams, identifying key parts such as the roots, stem, leaves and flower. To deepen their understanding, they then designed and built their own 3D plant models, using a range of materials to represent each part of the plant accurately.
Shropshire Class have shown great enthusiasm, curiosity and creativity in their learning this week, and we are very proud of the effort they have put into all areas of the curriculum. 🌟
