Our super creative Art Explorers have been very busy this term crafting a variety of artworks!
Super Cool Cat Bookmarks
We started the term making super cool cat bookmarks where the children developed their mixed media skills, combining materials and applying colour theory.
The children started by cutting the shape of their bookmark, then they used posca pens to create their patterns. The children chose from a variety of colourful yarn to wrap around the body, before finishing their creations with details such as pipe cleaner tails and googly eyes.
“I love being creative! I liked making the cat bookmark the best because I like designing” Owen, D5
“I loved making the cat bookmarks because cats are my second favourite animal. I liked using the posca pens and making my design” Cora, S3
Woven Decorative Stars
In weeks three and four, the Art Explorers were shown how to use their art and maths skills to create lovely woven stars. They all started with a cardboard circle which they quickly turned into stunning star designs by weaving embroidery thread at various intervals. The children soon discovered that the position of the thread impacted the finished star design. The Art Explorers loved drawing additional details and adding gems to their final designs.
“I love Art Explorers because art is my hobby. My favourite thing was making woven stars because I could use my art and maths skills. I could calculate where to put the wool to change the design of the star and liked using all the different wool colours” Jethra, D5
Whimsical Crowns
The Art Explorers loved designing and making their own 3D whimsical crowns. We started by looking at a mix of strange and beautiful crowns that can be made from a variety of materials. We looked at how materials can be manipulated for different effects. The children drew and planned their crowns before getting their hands on the sparkly pipe-cleaners, sparkly gold paper, fluffy pom poms and glitter gems!! We haven’t quite finished our crowns yet, but you might spot some of our children sporting their fantastic creations next Friday.
“I love Art Explorers! I liked designing and making my crown, using the pipe-cleaners and other materials. I don’t normally craft at home, so this was great fun!” Arabella, B3
“I enjoyed making my crown because I like designing and making with different materials” Annabel, D5
“I love Art Explorers because I love expressing my feelings through art. I have loved making everything! You should come to Art Explorers Club because it’s amazing” Marnie B3
