Spring Term- Week Four

This week the children learned about propagating house plants. They propagated an Aloe Vera from its leaves. The spider plants also got a little spruce up.

Spring Term- Week Three

Today, we did a little bird watching in relation to the RSPB big bird watch. We were not able to do the full hour for the survey but some of the children might enjoy doing this at home. We also went to look at the sanctuary garden to look at how we can rejuvenate the area. In the coming weeks we will be propagating an aloe vera plant, watering the beans and planting herb and flower seeds.

Spring Term-Week Two

The planting of the broad bean plants went well. All we have to do now is to keep them watered!

Spring Term- Week One

Welcome back to garden club and hello to some new members. Today, the children tipped out the compost they made in September and mixed it  to aerate it. There were a few surprises, such as worms and a potato plant. We also started to prep tubs for the broad plants that we sowed back in November. The daffodil bulbs have started to sprout.

Autumn Term-Week Seven

Lots of the group taste tested the cress they grew, in egg sandwiches. Then we looked at some work by inspiring garden designers and then started designing our  own ideal gardens.

Week Six

More daffodil bulbs were planted, onion bulbs and planters watered but the main event was making bird feeders. We talked about the balance of nature for a healthy garden.

Week Five

The children planted the broad beans and the rest of the garlic. The broad beens were planted in pots ready to plant on. Cress seeds were sown so that we can watch germination over the next week.

Week Four

This week, the children started planting onions outside the kitchen, in the weeks to come there will be garlic and broad beans added. Daffodils were also planted but the discovery of some extremely long worms detracted from the job in hand!

Week Three

This week, the children have made bottle compost. They will keep the compost at school to observe the changes and use it in the spring. The children also began to prepare the ground for daffodil bulbs that they will soon be planting.

Week Two

This week, the children learned how to make new house plants by division. The spider plants are easy to care for at home, simply allow the soil to become dry and then water. Pot on once the plant begins to outgrow the pot it is in.

Week One

The children emptied seed pods from wild flowers, such as poppies and cornflowers and made seed packets to take home. These can be sown in autumn or spring on a clear patch of ground.
