All of the children will have an investigative topic-linked learning task to complete, which is rotated over a three-week cycle. The children will focus on one of their three current foundation subjects each week.
To support this, the children are split into 3 groups, which you can see below.
This will be set on a Thursday and due by the following Tuesday.
In class on a Tuesday or Wednesday, the children will then share the outcomes of their research, and the knowledge they have retrieved, within their own group.

Durham 2 have had another brilliant week full of thoughtful learning and enthusiasm. Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who kindly donated to the Poppy Appeal. The children showed great understanding of the importance of remembrance, and the poppy snap bands have been very popular – proudly tapped, worn and admired throughout the week!
In maths, we have been developing our subtraction skills by learning how to exchange. When we don’t have enough ones to subtract, we exchange 1 ten for 10 ones to help us complete the calculation. The children have worked really hard on this step and are becoming much more confident in using it independently.
In English, the class wrote and edited their own exciting versions of Little Red, where Little Red becomes the one hunting the wolf. We focused on writing in the past tense and using subordinating conjunctions (words that connect two parts of a sentence, such as because, when, if, that,). The children really enjoyed adding suspense and drama to their sentences.
In geography, we compared the United Kingdom with Somalia. We learned that Somalia is in the Horn of Africa and lies close to the equator, which means it has a much hotter and drier climate than the UK. In summer, temperatures there can reach around 38°C, making life and farming quite different to what we are used to.
In science, we used the acronym MRS GREN to help us remember the seven characteristics of living things: Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, and Nutrition. We explored how all living things share these features and compared examples of living and non-living things.
The children have worked so hard and shown great curiosity and care in their learning. We hope you all have a restful weekend!
