What a week it has been in Durham Class! The heatwave has certainly arrived, and we have been incredibly proud of the children's resilience and enthusiasm despite the soaring temperatures. They have continued to work hard, support one another and a calm energy to their learning.
In English, we have been planning Arctic setting descriptions. While the weather outside has felt tropical, we have been imagining icy landscapes, freezing winds and snowy adventures as we prepare to write our own detailed descriptions. Thinking cold thoughts has certainly helped!
In Maths, we have been learning positional and directional language, including forwards, backwards, up, down, left and right. On the hottest day of the week, we used trays of water with floating arrows to practise describing quarter, half and full turns, as well as clockwise and anticlockwise movements. The children loved combining maths with a chance to keep cool!
In Science, we worked in the shade to create bug hotels as part of our learning about microhabitats and how insects survive in different environments. The children enjoyed investigating where minibeasts live and discussing what they need to thrive.
In Art, we have begun an exciting special project which will be displayed in the Discovery Centre next year. We are keeping some details secret for now, but we are very excited about how it is developing and cannot wait to share the finished pieces with you.
Thank you for your continued support. We hope everyone has a lovely, restful weekend and finds plenty of ways to stay cool!
