Southborough Shine at the First Cross Country Relays-Monday 11th November

On a warm, dry November afternoon Southborough Relay teams travelled to Showfields Sports Ground, Skinner School to take part in the Year 5-6 and Year 3-4 Cross Country Relays. It was fantastic to see 17 schools taking part in this Tunbridge Wells schools’ event which combines Cross Country running and Relays in mixed teams of four. In total there were 22 teams in the Year 5-6 race and 17 teams in the Year 3-4 race.

Each child ran 1500 meters in the Year 5-6 race and 650metres in the Year 3-4 race with teams made up of 2 girls and 2 boys.

The Year 5-6 races went off first with Bay and Olive both having strong races with Bay leading the race from the Claremont pupil at the end of first leg and Olive close behind. As we progressed through both our yellow and green teams stayed in the top 9 teams from the 22 teams that started with Evie bringing the yellow team home in a fantastic 2nd place behind Claremont at the end of the race. Jake was close behind for green team with a solid 9th place with a sprint finish with a child from Bishops Down.

In the Year 3-4 race we again started very strong with Ben and Freddie leading the Southborough teams off on leg one. The boys both had strong races around the field in 3rd and 4th place respectively at the end of their leg before handing to Eloise and Janie who maintained position. The team managed to maintain the pace all the way through the relay with only Claremont and St James nudging ahead at the end. Southborough finished a brilliant 3rd place and 7th place with Nahla and Rachel bringing the teams home on the final leg.

Well done to all the children that took part, the teams were:

Southborough School shine at Tunbridge Wells District Cross Country.

What a fantastic start to the Cross-Country season for all the pupils that took part in a very soggy and muddy first Tunbridge Wells District Cross country event at Showfields Playingfields. We are delighted to have the support of the The Skinners Grammar School allowing us to use their facilities throughout the year. The aim is to try and provide all the schools in the local area with a series of races.

The course was slightly undulating with a very muddy woody section where pupils had to navigate between trees, then a short, sharp incline before returning to the playfields. There were over three hundred children taking part in the four races between Years 3-6 and the course was around a mile long for the older pupils and three quarters of a mile for younger pupils.

Southborough had a number of notable performances lead by Bella who finished forth and Isabelle who finished 12th in the Year 5 and 6 Girls race. Bella remained with the leading group for most of the race before a big sprint finish at the end. Isabelle and Neve both ran well paced races to finish strongly in the muddy conditions.

Jacob lead home the boys in a brilliant 7th despite admitting before the race that he was very nervous. He felt that his training at a local club was really starting to pay off and he felt the difference in his fitness. Henry and Colton in year 5 came through strongly at the end to finish 22nd and 29th with George and Alfred following closely behind.

Hannah had an excellent run to finish 10th in a very competitive Year 3 and 4 girls race with Ava and Charlotte moving through the field throughout the race to finish strongly at the end very close together.

Ben and Ravi had a very close race in the Year 3-4 boys’ race, both pushing each other around the course amongst the top 8 runners. Towards the end of the race, Ben produced a big sprint finish with Ravi closely behind to finish 6th and 9th respectively. Caden in his first outing ran an excellent paced race to finish close behind.

Well done to all the pupils that took part in possibly the biggest Cross-Country race we've put on to date. We look forward to hosting at Skinners Grammar School again after Christmas.

Cross Country at Skinners School- Monday 24th April

Well done to all the children that took part in the Tunbridge Wells District Cross Country this week at Skinners School. It was a brilliant course with a mix of hills, woods and grass to really challenge our pupils. This year was no exception with some superb performances once again led by Ava in Year 4 with a superb 2nd place in heavy rain and windy conditions. Ava had a battle at the front with a fellow club runner but continued her excellent form under difficult conditions. Also, in the top ten were Sophia in the Year 5 and 6 girls race powering through to a magnificent 5th place in her race along with Hannah who also finished a strong 5th place in the Year 3 and 4 races. These great performances were equally matched by a number of pupils running in their first race with Isabella finishing 9th in the Year 5-6 Girls race and Jake finishing 11th in the Year 5-6 boys’ race.

A huge well done to all the pupils that took part in the Cross Country this week and a full list of results can be seen below:

AVA SHINES WITH EXCELLENT WIN IN FIRST TUNBRIDGE WELLS DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY RACE...

Well done to all the pupils that took part in Wednesdays Tunbridge Wells District Cross Country at Mascalls Academy.

There were four fantastic races with some brilliant results from our Southborough pupils on a undulating course. In the year 3-4 Girls race, Ava again for the second year running came home a clear leader in the girls race with a brilliant piece of front running closely followed by Hannah and Neve. In the Boys race Henry came home in a fantastic 12th place over the half mile course showing great strength up the final hill. In the year 5-6 two lap races, Elliot ran a strong second lap to move through the field to 11th place being closely followed by Jared and Jacob, Frank, George and Teddy in the boys race. In the girls race, it was a close run competition with Bella leading the team home in 12th from Jess, Hattie, Isabella S and Isabelle D, all running with great determination.

Well done to all the pupils that took part on a challenging course around Mascalls Academy fields. We look forward to two further races later in the year at Beechwood and Rose Hill schools.
