‘What a fabulous Commonwealth Games Sports Day we had on Tuesday. The sun shone throughout the day with some brilliant performances from all the pupils who competed in the different carousel and running activities throughout the day. The atmosphere was incredible and it was lovely to see so many parents moving around the field supporting the pupils as they took part in their different activities. The children competed in their different Olympic continents and Commonwealth countries to remind us of the importance of the spirit of the Commonwealth Games taking place shortly in Birmingham’.
The day started with Key Stage 2 taking part in a number of Commonwealth Games Sporting events in a Carousel where they rotated every few minutes. Pupils enjoyed the opportunity to take part in Football, Hockey, Basketball, Cricket, Target throwing, Javelin and Long jump to capture the feel of the Commonwealth Games. The pupils then moved onto their Athletics events starting with Distance Relay races followed by the Sprints, Distance Runs and then Short Relays on the 200 metre track. All our pupils represented their Olympic Continents and their surrounding Commonwealth countries.
In the afternoon we welcomed Key Stage 1 who followed a similar format with a number of different carousel activities following the different Commonwealth Games Sports. The pupils particularly enjoyed the jumping and throwing events along with the 'space hoppers'! All the pupils had a go at different running events including a distance run for Year 1 and 2. The shorter races saw Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 compete in a 200 meter relay race and a 50 metre sprint on our 10 lane running track with some fantastic results.
The day finished with a number of our competitive parents racing out over a number of sprint races to celebrate the upcoming Commonwealth Games on what was a busy but very enjoyable day for all.
Overall results and medals will be announced in celebration assembly before the end of term.
