Action Research

This year our staff have engaged in action research, using IRIS Connect.

What is action research at Southborough School?

Action research is distinct from other forms of research in that the teacher looks at her or his own practice and develops an aspect of it, rather than aiming to produce new knowledge. 

What is IRIS Connect?

IRIS Connect is a video-based learning platform, in which staff are able to record themselves teaching, before reflecting on their clips either individually or with colleagues. IRIS has given us the opportunity to see lessons from a whole new perspective, we've been able to pinpoint areas of our teaching to improve.  

Challenge

This year we have been looking at how we challenge our pupils. We used initial IRIS reflections and pupil voice from our 'Pupil Teaching and Learning committee' to delve into how Southborough challenges its pupils. Following this, we've been looking at different levels of feedback and questioning to ensure all pupils are challenged. Each teacher has been reflecting on their own practise, focusing in on how we can improve challenge within our classrooms.
