Sports Leaders and House Competitions

Key Stage 2 Sports Day 2017

With a tinge of sadness but mostly huge excitement we walked out to participate in our last ever sports day at Southborough. Thankfully the grey skies ‘mostly’ held their rain and we were able to compete in our carousel of field events. Throwing balls and javelins, jumping as far as we possibly could and tackling the obstacle course… we were determined to accumulate as many points as possible for our teams. Mrs Savage gave us regular scoring updates about how each team was doing and after a quick rain break we moved trackside to compete in the much anticipated running races.

All the children sprinted like cheetahs in their individual class races and our brilliant morning of sport culminated in some fantastic team relays. Powering up and down the track, yellow, red, blue and green bravely battled and vital team points were won.

You could cut the atmosphere with a knife as Mrs Dooley prepared to announce the final results. Finally, the red team were declared overall team winners and I was extremely proud to lift the shiny, house sports cup with my co-team captain, Millie.  Fahim, Suffolk 6

Sports Leader Training
Last week a group of Year 6 students went to the Angel Centre in Tonbridge to take part in Sports Leader training. Each school was given an activity to set up. Then we had to explain how it works to other schools so they could have a go. Five out of ten pupils took part in the events, while the others presented the activity to everyone else. Now we have had our training, we will be able to lead activities with our school at playtimes. Barney M

KS1 Sports Leaders

Another week passes and we are still keeping the infants expectations high. Sports leaders’ will now be introducing the scheme of stickers for good behaviour and good enthusiasm. With activities such as one on one football and splat last week, we head into our third hosting: Bally hoop, Running Rampage, Stuck in the mud, relay races and netball. As we aim to impress with our new activities, we shall hope for a hat-trick of successful days. Oli N KS1 Blogger

KS2 Sports Leaders

Wow, what a start to Sports Leaders the children on the football shooting said they love the choice of the activity and they would like to do it again!! The activities that took place were mostly football but it still brought a smile to the children's faces, and it gave them a chance to try out a different type of sport. As we attracted more and more children we were so happy to host these evens and it was a very good day for both Sports Leaders and the children of Southborough school.  Carys T S5
